The Dunning-Kruger Effect: why your friend thinks he is the next Tanmay Bhat

Have you ever seen a friend crack a few jokes and suddenly think they're the next Tanmay Bhat?

That's the Dunning-Kruger Effect for you.

Example?

This is Somnath in the comments of my newsletter:

(love you bro)

Like when someone learns a few guitar chords and thinks they’re ready to put on a concert.

Here's the funny part: At first, when we learn something new, we feel super confident.

We think, "Wow, this is easy! I'm really good at this." But then, as we learn more, we start to see how much we don't know. That’s when our confidence takes a big dive.

So next time your friend starts acting like they’re a comedy star after making the group chat laugh, just go with it.

They’re just riding the Dunning-Kruger wave—it starts high, crashes down, and hopefully levels out into some real skills and less funny overconfidence!

Recent Jams

  1. Not like us: Kendrick is way ahead of Drake

  2. TT / Shutdown: Seedhe Maut ATE SOS!!

  3. SOS vs Seedhe Maut Breakdown: if you are into gossips

I suppose that's enough scrolling for this newsletter. I could write more, but I guess I now HAVE to write one per week to keep my thoughts concise and not scattered.

I hope you made it to the end!
